Having been a leading cabinet service provider in Dallas, Texas for the better part of thirty years, it’s a safe assumption that we know a thing or fifty about cabinets & cabinetry systems. Whether it’s affecting the restoration of a client’s vintage cabinets or providing some much-needed TLC in the form of refacing/refinishing for another set of cabinets, we know our craft and know it well! To that effect, we felt it important not to hoard this hardwon experience & knowledge but to share it openly so that all may be of benefit. As such, listed below are several commonly asked concerns & frequently asked questions that we’re experienced in addressing. If you have a particular question that is not listed or you require further expansion/clarification on a specific question, please feel free to reach out to our cabinet experts at Cabinet Transformer today!
We use Benjamin Moore command, water based acrylic urethane paint (environmentally friendly), doesn't chip or scratch, dries within 2 hours (able to use your kitchen/bathroom every night).
We can build new door and drawer fronts with high-grade MDF or solid wood (pricing varies depending on the type of wood).
While each cabinet painting project is unique in its requirements, we generally adhere to about a 1 to 2 weeks average turnaround, depending on the size of the kitchen/ bathroom.
Cabinet refacing involves replacing old or worn materials on an existing cabinet frame with newer components: doors, knobs, handles, drawers, slides, & fronts. Conversely, cabinet refinishing typically involves updating the color or finish of existing cabinets.
Often, restoring cabinets or cabinetry systems entails replacing key components of the cabinets that are clearly visible when the cabinets are not in use or resting in a ‘closed’ state. Effective cabinet restoration usually involves removing & replacing hardware, knobs, doors, drawer fronts, & handles of the cabinets before applying any paint, finish, stain, or lacquer.
Many homeowners who are looking to increase their property’s value in order to maximize their profits during a sale often reface the cabinetry in the kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, or workshop. Doing so not only boosts the aforementioned value of the home in terms of monetary potential but actually does so for a fraction of the cost that it would take actually to replace the cabinets outright.
Going with the theme of increasing home value without ‘breaking the bank,’ so to speak, refinishing one’s cabinetry & cabinets is also a great way to breathe new life back into the aesthetics of your home. Homeowners get to enjoy their tried & proven cabinets with a fresh new look & maximal functionality.
Another viable and even thriftier option for revitalizing your home’s cabinets is to simply re-paint them. A fresh new color to improve the ambiance of your bathroom, kitchen, laundry room, or workshop cabinets can work wonders for a home without imposing too heavily on a budget or even the time needed to complete the re-painting.
As the saying goes: “They don’t make 'em like they used to.” - the same can be said for vintage or classic cabinetry. While it’s true that newer cabinets & cabinetry come equipped with modern hardware & cost-effective materials, it doesn’t take away from the aura that vintage/classical cabinetry emanates when restored properly to their former glory.
For a thorough breakdown of the cabinet refinishing process, we do have an entire page dedicated to our specific process surrounding the refinishing of our customers’ cabinets. However, in a nutshell, it can be surmised simply like this: cabinet removal & retrieval, followed by preparation & refinishing in our workshop, and finally concluded by a prompt delivery & professional installation.
